The first thing that you have to know about me is that I have biophilia.. and it’s contagious.

My name is McLaina Oum and I was born and raised in beautiful San Diego, California. I am of Cambodian, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai descent. I am 22 years old and currently in my last semester as an Electrical Engineering undergrad at San Diego State University. I am currently working as an intern at Takeda California in the Systems Engineering/Sample Management department and enjoying every hour I spend there.

Ok, moving on from those aspects of my life and on to what I believe shapes who I am. I like to think that I am a pretty laid back and amiable person. It is very easy to start and hold a conversation with me, which I think is the reason why I can get along with anyone. I love going out and partying. Drinking, dancing, raging, I enjoy it all… Not that it’s a problem or anything. I just enjoy the company that I am in and the ambiance that surrounds me when I am out bar hopping or clubbing.

I am a music junkie, it’s my non-dangerous addiction. I love all genres including rock, classical, world, rap, R & B, hip hop, pop, and especially electronic. I have a reserved spot in my heart for EDM (electronic dance music). Artists that I absolutely adore are Kaskade, Tiesto, Dada Life, Avicii, Calvin Harris, Above & Beyond, Swedish House Mafia, ATB, Armin van Buuren, Markus Schultz, and many more. I find myself going out to clubs because these DJs are in town. Because I love EDM, I am also a raver. I enjoy going to raves. I’m not going to be one of those people that say they don’t do drugs while there or always do drugs while I’m raving. I have tried it and it made me feel “nice,” but I can do without it because I have a natural high that is amplified by the mood that the DJ and the crowd around me creates. I just love how the music makes me feel and move, for that period of time I am one in one with the DJ and the music, pure happiness!

So when I am not out partying and raging, I do like to spend alone time and time with family. I like to go outdoors and hike, camp, mountain bike, fish.. anything that allows me to connect and kind of climb down from my hype of partying. I love sports, both watching and playing. Volleyball, football, baseball/softball, soccer, rugby, darts, and pool are a few favorites of mine. I am a Muay Thai fighter, not competitively.. just recreationally. Not ready to compete yet.

I also enjoy cooking and entertaining for family and friends. I love writing, poetry and in my journal. I can’t draw for crap, but I do like looking at other people’s artwork. Photography is a past time of mine, that is my form of art.

So all in all, I am a person who enjoys various things in life and I enjoy them because it makes me happy. I live my life one day at a time and take it one stye at a time. That is the only way I know how to live and I can’t complain, it’s working out for me so far. Loving life at the moment <3
